Prior to Deathly Hallows it wasn't know where Severus' loyalties lied, whether it was with the good or with the bad. Picking Where Loyalties Lie was great seeing how although it was heartbreaking for Severus to kill Albus making him the bad guy in the eyes of all who were confused, it made him a Loyal death eater to the eyes of Voldemort, even if Snape's intentions were to save Draco.
